Have a question about the Digital Nomad Costa Rica trip?

How reliable is the internet?

The high speed internet is reliable and is rated to 80MBps.

Strong Wi-Fi connection can be found in the co-working space, cafe, near the pool, and in your room. For backup internet we are conveniently located near many cafes with strong Wi-Fi, and also highly recommend getting a local phone chip with 4G for a second backup connection.

Please keep in mind that the power grid in Costa Rica is stable, however, like anywhere, there can be outages.

We do not assume responsibility for any losses incurred because of outages.

Will I have 24/7 access to the co-working space?

Yes. The co-working space is located at the hostel for anyone who needs to work odd hours. Our hostel has 24 hour security. The door to the co-working space will lock behind you.

Where can I take Zoom calls?

There are 4 phone small booths in the co-working space. We recommend taking private Zoom calls in your room. There is a small desk, but please note there is no chair.

For voice calls or informal video calls, you can also find a quiet place near the pool, cafe, or lobby.

Will I be able to leave belongings in the co-working space, such as a monitor or keyboard?

The co-working spaces have “hot desks” and is arranged in an open floor plan. If you bring a portable monitor, you will need to bring it back to your room each night when you leave the co-working space. Your room is on the same property as the co-working space.

If you need to print something, printing is available in the town of Quepos at a local print shop for a fee. There is a post office in Quepos.

What is the nightlife like?

Manuel Antonio and Quepos have several nightlife options, including the hostel bar and pool bar. We are located across the street from a famous bar built into a Cold Wa-era jumbo jet. There are a few other bars within walking distance, and the town of Quepos is home to various discos for a more local scene, a 5 minute taxi ride away.
‍‍
Keep in mind the Quepos-Manuel Antonio area has a small town feel so don’t expect Miami Beach.  We are staying in a tourist town on the beach in rural Costa Rica. Happy hour, and bigger parties on Friday and Saturday night are most common.

Is laundry available?

Yes. At your accommodations, there is laundry service for the cost of $10 US for 5 kilos of laundry.

What is the bug situation?

We are staying in the jungle so expect to see lizards, frogs, or bugs. Costa Ricans prefer not to kill insects as they understand we are a visitor in their environment.

Long sleeves and pants are a good idea at dusk to protect from mosquitos. Please opt for eco-friendly, non-aerosol insect repellents.

How much time will our Community Manager spend with us?

Your Community Manager will spend time with the group when there are scheduled included activities, such as airport pickup and drop-off, spend days 1 and 2 to get you acclimated, Humpday Dinners, weekend dinners, and Saturday adventure activities.

The rest of the time you will be left to work and explore the local area at your leisure.

Your Community Manager will be accessible via Whatsapp if you have any questions or in the event of an emergency.

Can a guest stay with me in my room?

Unfortunately, there are no guests allowed in your room due to the hotel policy. Guests are allowed in the common areas like the cafe and pool. They will need to pay for their own hot desk if they'd like to access the co-working space.

If you'd like to have a friend or significant other visit you, please have them book their own accommodations at the hostel, or at a nearby hotel or Airbnb.

If a friend who is visiting from home would like to join the group on an included activity we will do our best to include them, but cannot guarantee availability. Please note that any fees for guests attending group activities will be payable directly to our local vendors such as the catamaran tour company.

Please note we offer a couples rate at a significant discount. You will share a queen bed in your standard room.

What are the shared bathrooms for the micro-rooms like?

The shared bathrooms has only one toilet and one shower. Bathrooms are shared with a maximum of 4 other micro-rooms. They are cleaned three times per day. They are equipped with a mirror. Photos can be seen in the Trip Details section.

Do I need a Digital Nomad Visa for Costa Rica?

No. You will be entering Costa Rica as a tourist and no digital nomad visa will be required. Your passport stamp will be good for a 90 day stay. Please write "tourism" as your reason for entry.

When traveling with a passport, citizens of the United States, Canada, and most Latin American and European countries are entitled to stay in Costa Rica for 90 days. They must enter the country with a departure ticket and a valid passport that does not expire within 30 days of their arrival in Costa Rica.

To find specific visa requirements or restrictions for your home country, visit the Costa Rican embassy page.

What are the tax implications of me performing work tasks outside of the United States?

Please consult your human resources department and/or accountant if you have concerns on these matters.

What cell phone service do you recommend in Costa Rica?

Many US cellular providers like AT&T, Verizon, GoogleFi and T-Mobile offer international plans that work in Costa Rica. Please contact your provider.

We recommend brining an unlocked cell phone and buying a 4G SIM card from Claro or Movistar and recharge your data plan as needed. Local cell phone service is very affordable in Costa Rica.

WhatsApp is the primary method of communication in Latin America and is free with many local cell phone plans.

Are the outlets compatible with American plugs, or should we bring adaptors?

Costa Rica uses 110 volt, 60 cycle electricity, just like in the US. Plugs are typically the 2 pronged flat type so US travelers will not typically need a converter or adapter.

Can I prepare my own food?

Yes. There is one shared kitchen with a shared refrigerator at the hostel. You must label your own food.

Mini-fridges may be rented at an additional charge, but subject to availability.

Can I have a roommate?

All the rooms available have one queen bed. If you wish to sleep in the same bed, you can book the discounted couples rate, and sleep in the same bed. Otherwise, you will have your own room.

Is there desk in the room and how big are the beds?

There is a small desk in each room, but no chair. All rooms have queen beds.

Is there an age limit? What is the age range?

There is no hard age limit for Digital Nomad Trips. We believe a good co-working space or professional community should include people of all ages.

That being said, most of our community members have been part of our Under30Experiences community, open to travelers age 21-35.

As our community has now been around for 10+ years, we've launched new brands like Over30Experiences, for travelers in their 30s and 40s.

All our welcome on Digital Nomad Trips, just be aware that most of the people will be young and active!
